There is a difference between a Christian who counsels and Christian counseling. Many people think that because they believe in Jesus, the answers they give to people are Biblical and Christian. This is not true. Some Christians give opinions based upon their life experiences. Some Christians give counsel based up the counseling theories of men. Some say they are Christian counselors because they have learned this may expand their business. None of these methods qualify as Christian Counseling, and we are warned against these types of responses in the Bible: Colossians 2:8, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." We are told in Psalm 1:1, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."
